All of the Division-1 Triple Option schools run a 20-minute “Bullets” period every practice.
This is when two offensive groups go against various defensive looks over a 20-minute span.
The goal is to get over 40 reps with both groups in 20 min–so there is a lot of execution ongoing.
Every four minutes, the defense changes the looks.
The following is how this is done:
Look #1- Odd Stack
Look #2- 50
Look #3- 4-3
Look #4- 4-4
Look #5- Goal-line/Eagle Variation
At Triple Option Football Academy Camps, Dr. Cella shows coaches how to do this, and is #1 on the scout team defense while doing this.
The Triple Option is a process-based offense. Eliminate planning for an opponent’s base defense–prepare for situational football instead.
