One way to put yourself into the best position to score is to Freeze and Double Count the Defense.
The goal is not to draw them off-sides because obviously yardage is minimal, but to force the defense to reveal what they are doing and put your Triple Option Offense in the best possible position to score.
This is done in the following manner:
1- Align in Heavy and call Follow Right in the huddle (can be done right or left).
2- Start cadence– Down, Ready, Set Hut (short-side A-back motions on “R” of ready and returns to initial position after final “T” of sethut).
3- Quarterback restarts the cadence and runs Follow Right as the Default.
4- If the Heavy Tackle is uncovered, run Down– The Quarterback utilizes an alert word to indicate that Down is the call, restarts the cadence and Down is executed.
5- If the Mike backer shows blitz or aligns less than 3 yards depth from the line of scrimmage… In that case, run Rocket. The Quarterback utilizes an alert word to indicate that Rocket is the call, restarts the cadence and Rocket is executed.
In summary, to Freeze/Double Count on the Goal-line:
1- Align in Heavy
2- The short-side A-back FREEZES.
3- The Quarterback runs Follow Right
4- If the Heavy Tackle is uncovered, run Down.
5- If the Playside Inside Linebacker shows blitz or aligns within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage run Toss.
6- Follow is the default–if the Heavy Tackle is uncovered Step 4 overrides Step 5.
