The Triple, Midline, and Double Option Made Easy

The actuality is that the Triple Option is really one concept.

Pick the direction you want to run the Triple Option and allow the Triple Option to default from there.

This is how.

1- Pick the direction you want the Triple to be run.

2- If the Defense aligns with a 3-technique to that side, the Quarterback defaults the play to Zoom (Midline Triple).

3- If the Defense aligns with a 3-technique and a playside safety to that side, the Quarterback defaults the play to Lead (Midline Double).

4- If there are A-gap (1, 2i, or 2 techniques) and a 4i or 4 technique to the same side, the Playside Tackle still works to veer inside, but if the 4/4i squeezes down, the Double Option becomes a natural concept.  There is nothing new to teach.

Triple Option versus an A-gap defender and a 4i/4 NATURALLY turns into Double Option.

If the Playside Tackle can still veer inside the 4i/4… GO FOR IT!  Then, you still have a Triple Option!

Teach the Triple Option as one holistic concept, and your life will get easier as a football coach.  This is over 40 percent of Navy, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Southern’s Offense right now.
