Running Four Verticals out of the Spread Formation for a Big Play Passing Game

Running Four Verticals out of the Spread Formation for a Big Play Passing Game

Running Four Verticals out of the Spread Formation is fairly simplistic.

1- Four Verticals is called to one particular side.  If the middle of the field is closed, the Quarterback will throw the ball to the A-Back who the Free Safety does not cover.

Four Verticals vs. one-high safety.

2- If the middle of the field is open, throw to the Playside A-Back who will run the post in the middle of the field.

Vert Right versus Two-High Safeties. The Playside A runs to seven yards and posts into the middle of the field because it is open.

This simplistic concept blows the top off the coverage and leads to big plays.
