Teaching Triple Option Fundamentals: The Quarterback’s Read on Midline Double

Here is the progression for the Quarterback’s Read on Midline as a double option.

Midline Lead is utilized when Triple is called and a 3-technique and a playside safety align to the Triple Option side. Since the Playside Tackle cannot veer into the safety, the backside A-back must be inserted as the extra blocker.

The Quarterback does the following:

1- Takes the snap.

2- Jumps into the Backside A-gap.

3- Extends his elbows.

4- Gives ball to B-Back unless #1 tackles the B.  If so…

5- Quarterback re-seats the ball, replaces the read, and scores.
