Navy’s #2 Concept of 2015: Zone Option (Illustrated vs. 4-4 Defense)

Navy runs Zone Option when they give to the B-Back on Triple Option and gain less than four yards.  This means that the defense is boxing Navy inside and preventing Navy to go to the outside with their Triple Option.  Once this is the case, Navy runs the Zone Option to get the ball outside and create the pull or pitch that the defense has been preventing.  This was Navy’s #2 concept in 2015 (Triple Option was #1).

The Playside A-Back loads #3. If the Mike runs over the top, the Playside A blocks the Mike and the B-Back will have the Free Safety (#3).
