When the defense aligns with a 4i, the 4i is designed to cancel the B-Back on Triple Option.

There is the likelihood that the 9-technique is going to hit the Quarterback as fast as possible–this is what is called a Blood Stunt.

Navy, Georgia Tech, and the Citadel run Outside Veer out of the base Spread Formation when they get a 4i so that they can double #1 and hand the ball off while #2 (9-technique) runs right past the ball carrier.
