In 2020, Army, Navy, and Air Force have combined to run 1177 plays and have competed in 18 games. The following are their top concepts:
1. Zone Dive (all variations)– run 203 times, is 17% of their offense, and they run this concept 11 times/game.
2. Zone Option (all variations)– run 167 times, is 14% of their offense, and they run this concept 9 times/game.
3. Triple Option– run 141 times, is 12% of their offense, and they run this concept 8 times/game.
4. Midline Triple Option– run 121 times, is 10% of their offense, and they run this concept 7 times/game.
5. Triple Pass– run 90 times, is 8% of their offense, and they run this concept 5 times/game.
Army, Navy, and Air Force have seven remaining scheduled games. The greatest trend in 2020 is the increase of Midline Triple Option, which increased in a similar fashion in 2013-2014. Midline Triple Option’s emergence is caused by two critical factors: 1- inability for Quarterbacks to read the blood stunt; 2- ability to now read a B-gap defender.
