You’ve Worked Hard All Week on the Triple Option–Now It’s Time to Call the Game

Playcalling in the Triple Option is pretty basic.

1- Run Triple Option and if you get 4+ yards run Triple Option again.

If the Triple is working, keep running it–and to the same side.

2- If you don’t get 4+ yards on Triple Option with a give read, get the ball outside with Rocket or Zone Option.

Obviously, the defense is trying to box you inside, so get the ball outside.

3- If you don’t get 4+ yards on Triple Option with a pull read, throw Triple Pass.

When the defense makes you pull the ball, the Safety and Corner have to get on the Quarterback/Pitch by sacrificing pass coverage for run support–thus you throw the ball.
