Triple Option Football Academy Playbook: What Happens when there’s No #1 on Triple?

In high school football, Defensive Coordinators play all sorts of junk defenses to stop the Triple Option.

Here is an example of one of them.

Versus the Spread formation, the defense aligns in a 5-3 Double Eagle with two techniques; however, there is no down lineman touching the Playside Tackle….

This means THERE IS NO #1.

So, when you call Triple, the Quarterback gives the ball EVERY-SINGLE-TIME.

This puts the defense in quite a predicament.

Here’s what Triple looks like versus no #1.

Triple Option versus 5-3 Double Eagle (No #1). The Quarterback will keep giving the ball until the defense covers the Playside Tackle. The Center and Guard Ace the 2-technique for the B-Back. (Triple Option Football Academy)

So if the defense doesn’t give you a #1–keep running Triple and keep giving the football to the B-back.
