In running the Triple Option:

1. Find the Free Safety.

2. Find the number of inside linebackers.

3. Find the Action Key.


4. Align in Spread and see if the Defense aligns balanced (5 1/2 defenders to both sides).

Spread Formation Alignments Offensive Line- 3-plus foot splits--inside hand on heels of Center. Center in four-point stance. A-backs- one yard behind Offensive Tackle; inside foot on outside foot of Offensive Tackle. Receivers- 12 yards from Offensive Tackle. If ball is on hash, eight yards from Offensive Tackle. B-Back behind Quarterback. Depth is determined how fast he can get into the point when the Quarterback points the ball on Triple/Midline. Quarterback- behind center with balanced feet.

a. If they do not, attack the numbers.


5. Align in Over and see where the Free Safety aligns.

a. If the defense does not align balanced (less than 6 1/2 defenders to over side),  run to the numbers).

b. If the Defense aligns balanced ( 6 1/2 defenders to over side), run to the nub.
