The Role of the Assistant Coach in the Flexbone Triple Option Offense

Flexbone Triple Option Assistant Coaches must, and non-negotiably, execute the following to maintain employment:

1- LOYALTY TO THE HEAD COACH ABOVE ALL ELSE

(not another person, place, thing, or idea).

2- OBEDIENCE

This offense is abnormal football. It requires doing what you’re told and asking questions later–behind closed doors.

3- ACCESSIBILITY

The ability to be around all the time. With this systematic, procedure-based offense, you’re not going to spend much time watching film of your opponent–because it doesn’t matter what they do or have done. Navy’s Centers/Guards Coach watches less than 1 hour of his opponent every week in preparation.

4- PROFESSIONALISM

Exhibit high moral authority in education players on stance, alignments, keys, assignments, and techniques.

_________________________

Experience is NOT a prerequisite for coaching in the Flexbone Triple Option–the Flexbone Triple is an abnormal offense with abnormal stance, alignments, keys, assignments, and techniques. You can’t coach this like normal football–if Navy did… they’d never win. They have ZERO athletic scholarship players and play at least nine games/year with schools who have 85+.

Navy has gone to bowl games 9 out of the last 10 years. This is no accident.
