There are times when the action key is not going to be blocked as well as you would like, or the Quarterback misses the give read on #1, or #3 outruns the Playside A-Back in the alley. Adversity is part of football. When you, the Triple Option coach face adversity, here are the five steps to overcome this.
1- Remember the overarching goal you hope to achieve.
The goal is to score points ONE explosive play at a time. Focus on getting everybody blocked to start.
2- Seek assistance from your assistant coaches and players.
Ask them what they are seeing out there, who is making the tackle, and how that player(s) can be constrained within the system.
3- Maintain a positive attitude.
Life is too short for negativity, and so is the regular season.
4- Dylan McKay and Arthur Fonzarelli never lost THEIR cool.
They are the character sketch for always doing everything right. Fix the problem without being part of the problem.
5- Try again, and again, and again.
The will to win must be significantly greater than your opponent if you are equal or less talented than your opponent.
Work on these five steps and you’ll evolve through adversity.
