Ace Blocking Head-Up Defenders on Triple and Midline

Ace Blocking Head-Up Defenders on Triple and Midline

The following are the situations where an “Ace” block occurs versus a Head-Up Defender in the Triple Option Offense:

Ace versus slanting 2. When Ace blocking a 2-technique on Triple, the Guard's first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 2-technique in the Playside A-gap.

Ace versus slanting 2. When Ace blocking a 2-technique on Triple, the Guard’s first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 2-technique in the Playside A-gap.  Regardless if the 2-technique slants or not, the Playside Guard zone steps to B-gap on Triple Option versus a 2-technique.

When Ace blocking a 0-technique on Midline, the Center's first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 0-technique on the backside of the play.

When Ace blocking a 0-technique on Midline, the Center’s first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 0-technique on the backside of the play.

Practice these two situations with Centers and Guards as getting vertical movement on them is vital to establish the dive on Triple and Midline Option.
