Triple Option Football Coaching: Ace Block Compilation
January 14, 2014
Ace blocking is utilized on Triple Option when there is a 1, 2i, or 2 technique.
This way, this player, who is the Action Key, is double-teamed so that the B-back can stay on his path.
Also, Ace blocking is utilized on Midline for the same purpose.
The following is a compilation of Ace blocking situations within the Triple and Midline Option.
Ace versus 2i. Guard zone steps with playside foot, takes second step goes back to base with backside foot and punches his inside hand through the playside breastplate of the 0-technique.
Center zone steps with his inside foot, second step goes back to base with his outside foot, and his third step will be a zone step with his inside foot as he punches his inside hand off the third step, takes his fourth step going back to base, and squeezes his hips with the Guard and pounds his (Center’s) arches through the echo of the whistle.
Ace versus slanting 2. When Ace blocking a 2-technique on Triple, the Guard’s first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 2-technique in the Playside A-gap.
When Ace blocking a 0-technique on Midline, the Center’s first step, which is a zone step to the playside, is the key movement. This step keeps the 0-technique on the backside of the play.
Ace blocking is one of the most important blocks within the Triple Option Offense. Work to become great at this in 2014.
