Alpha Males are the men who aren’t happy unless they’re the top dogs—the ones calling the shots.
Alphas reach the top ranks in large organizations because they are natural leaders—comfortable with responsibility in a way Betas (Non-Alphas) could never be.
Most people feel stress when they have to make important decisions; Alphas get stressed when tough decisions don’t rest in their capable hands.
For Alphas, being in charge delivers such a thrill, they willingly take on levels of responsibility most rational people would find overwhelming.
In fact, it’s hard to imagine the modern corporation and coaching world without Alpha leaders (Bill Parcells, Mike Ditka, Brian Billick, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, Nick Saban, Rex Ryan, Urban Meyer).
The Alpha Male Triple Option Coach has these characteristics, and the following is what the Alpha Male Triple Option Coach does to assert Alpha status:
1. Possesses Conviction- He is absolutely certain that the Triple Option and the constraints are the answer to successful offensive football. The value he brings: Acts decisively; has good intuition.
2. Has an Action Plan Based on His Conviction- Not only does he know that the Triple Option is the way to go, he has a Step-by-Step Process (made famous by Nick Saban) demonstrating exactly how the information is provided to his players and coaches. The value he brings: Sees beyond the obvious, takes creative leaps, and produces results.
3. He’s a Direct Communicator- He shows athletes ONE TIME how to technique an assignment and then expects them to follow instructions the first time they are given. The value he brings: He moves people to achieve high goals.
4. He’s Implicitly Trained with the Triple Option Process- The Alpha Male Coach knows cold how every step in the process and all the key phrases to technique all assignment. The value he brings: He’s extraordinarily productive, and he finds time and energy for a high level of work.
5. He’s Unmoved- If something unpleasant occurs with his offense, he continues to work the process with his players and coaches with the same or greater conviction he’s had. The value he brings: He’s laser-focused and objective.
