Nine (9) man football is played in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
The Navy/Georgia Tech Triple Option is the same in 9-man as 11-man. In 9-man football, the Receivers are eliminated. When this occurs, the defense’s Deep Defenders are eliminated as well.
Here is the Triple Option versus the 5-2-2 Defense:
Just as in 11-man Triple Option football, the Playside A has #3 (run support) while the Quarterback cancels #1 and #2.
The Playside is responsible for the Mike and the Free Safety while the Center and Backside Guard must keep the 0-technique on the Backside of the play.
On Triple, the Backside Tackle must cancel the Backside B-gap.
The B-Back runs through the Playside Guard while the Backside A-Back runs the pitch route.
