The Playside A-Back’s Assignment on Triple Option is to block #3.

He dropstep-crossover-runs the alley and blocks whoever shows in the alley UNLESS #3 is in the middle of the field pre-snap. In this case, the Playside A LOADS #3.

Always remember: There is a pre-snap #3 and a post-snap #3.  

The following are the situations that can occur when an A-Back blocks #3 on Triple Option:

The Playside A-Back arcs to #3 and blocks whoever shows in the alley.  This can be either the safety or the corner in a 4-across look.
