Beat Goliath and Turn Your Individuals Into a TEAM With the Flexbone

This is the number one reason my clients gave why they succeeded after accurately implementing the flexbone triple option offense. Now their Davids can go out and consistently beat Goliath.
Clients are taught to keep the offense tremendously simple. By focusing on what Army/Air Force does 4+ times a game, they create VERY smooth stones. Ultimately, David only needed one smooth stone to slay Goliath, and clients know that by establishing the zone dive, especially on first down, They will win the game. Zone Dive is their first stone. Just in case, they have four more smooth stones, and that is where the other concepts come into play.
You exploit opponents with this unique style of play. This is especially true in the era of shotgun and spread football. By triple teaming the defensive tackle and running behind the triple team on zone dive. By canceling the play side, defensive line with the football on midline triple option. By evading the defensive line with the rocket toss, you overwhelm your opponent.
The second reason my clients give why they win after accurately implementing the flexbone triple option offense is that they take a bunch of individuals and turn them into a team. This is because when you’re the gross underdog, you are going to have to rely on each other to make Things work.
Army HC Jeff Monken said, “the best individuals don’t win, the best teams win.“ Army went on to have a record-breaking season of wins in 2024.
You win with team fundamentals. Players need each other to accurately practice. By running Paul Johnson’s live bullets drill, you accomplish this faster than anything else. All you need to do is get your first two offenses against seven coaches/players holding shields with scripted alignment/assignments — And off you go! Your goal is to get 40 reps per offense in 20 minutes. That was Coach Johnson‘s goal for the drill.
On zone dive, you build a six man wedge with the offensive line and the playside a-back. Very few concepts in Football build a team like a wedge. The triple team set by the play side guard sets the wedge.
When running midline triple option, you have so many players working together to make the concept go. This is especially true with the playside offensive line, the center, and the backside guard, the playside perimeter, and the three backs who execute the triple option.
