Other Constraints Utilized to Establish the Flexbone Fullback

Air Force ran the trap eight times a game in their final four games of 2024 and finished 4-0.
There are many advantages of running trap to establish the B-back in the flexbone offense.
Here is trap out of the flex formation. Generally, Air Force runs trap out of the spread formation, but there are advantages to running trap to a three man surface. This is especially true versus a triple stack defense. In a triple stack defense, there are two mikes. So the third offensive player of the play side can cancel the playside mike.
Down is not a frequently- run concept; however, when a lot of toss is run, the down serves as a nice compliment to the widening D-gap defender.
Here is down from the heavy formation. Practicing down versus a 2i is very important because it maximizes what the center has to do in a worst-case scenario. essentially Air Force has two pullers when they run the down.
Here is down from the flex formation. Notice the playside A-back slightly adjusts his alignment to his inside foot aligning on the outside foot of the receiver. This is to help him wall off the mike.
This concept is an infrequently utilized concept; however, can be beneficial if the defense is continually blitzing. This way, you can run more than just rocket toss to beat the blitz.
Install rocket toss first and then install B-toss. All that changes are the assignments of the B-back and the backside a-back.
