Zone Dive & Follow: How One Coach Had His Best Practice Ever by Going All-In
Video Description
In this video, we dive into how the Zone Dive and the Follow concept gave one coach the best practice he’s ever had. Using a simple two-play sequence—Zone Dive followed by Follow—you can transform your team’s efficiency and execution in practice. These two plays give your offense the ability to attack vertically with speed, and then immediately counter with a follow concept that punishes over-pursuit and widens the cutback lanes.
We break down the diagrams shown here step-by-step, starting with the Zone Dive: a fast-hitting inside run that drives straight at the defense’s interior alignment. The Zone Dive is all about vertical displacement and body-on-body blocking with speed. Then we move into the Follow concept, which layers on top of the Dive. The back follows the original path of the Dive back, but then reads and cuts off of the lead blocker, often springing through the second level for explosive gains.
This was the exact combination that led to one of the most productive, efficient, and morale-boosting practices for a coach in our Flexbone community. We explain how you can install these plays, rep them in high repetition, and keep defenders guessing without having to change personnel or formations.
You’ll also hear about how this system doesn’t just get yards—it gives your players conviction and rhythm as they rep these base plays with speed and precision. It’s simple, direct, and hard to stop when executed properly. Learn why simplicity, sequencing, and execution always beat fancy play design.
Whether you’re coaching 11-man, 9-man, or 8-man football, the Zone Dive and Follow sequence gives you a foundational attack to build on. If you’re ready to simplify your practice and dominate on the field, this video is your blueprint.
