Here are the top seven things the coaches highlighted about their Triple Option Football Academy experience that helped them reach the state championship game:
* Systematic Approach/Adding to Offensive Sets: The Academy provided a clear, organized system (“system based offenses,” “trust the system,” “putting the system in place”) that could be integrated into their existing offensive sets to provide an edge.
* Focus on Fundamentals & Techniques: Coaches emphasized the importance of learning “techniques and fundamentals,” “a much higher level of focus and understanding to our team,” and how it helped players “get as many reps as possible with their new skills.”
* Team Bonding & Player Development: The camps facilitated “team bonding” and gave players the opportunity to “work together in our offensive system before the season started,” which was deemed “invaluable.” It also helped maximize the potential of players, especially in small schools with fewer players, by distributing touches and allowing multiple players to score.
* Increased Scoring & Offensive Production: This was a recurring theme, with dramatic increases in points scored (e.g., Tyrone from 5-5 to 51 pts/game, Pamlico County from 108 to 508 points).
* Preparation and In-Season Support: The camp provided crucial “preparation” before the season, and Dr. Cella’s “accessibility” and “prompt reply” to in-season questions were highly valued, offering consistent support.
* “No-Nonsense” and Quality Teaching: Coaches appreciated Dr. Cella’s direct and effective teaching style, describing it as a “no-nonsense approach” and an “overall quality event.”
* Maximizing Player Potential (Especially for Small Schools): For smaller schools with limited rosters, the system allowed them to “get the most out of our talent” and “maximize the potential of their players” by ensuring various players received touches and could score.
Before the 2010 season, Falls City HS (TX) had never won a regional championship in school history.
In 2010, after running a camp with Lou Cella as Camp Director, Falls City HS (TX) won the Regional and State Championship for the first time in school history in Texas while scoring 680 points in 15 games.
“The biggest thing for us is that it gave our kids the opportunity to work together in our offensive system before the season started – the techniques and fundamentals they learned was so big, so was the team bonding, and so was having an outside source (Lou Cella) teaching them – this was invaluable.”
