Offensive Strategy: The Triple-Check Progression
When we break the huddle, we line up in a balanced offensive set and read the defense in three specific stages:
1. Numbers Advantage: First, check if the defense is shifted or unbalanced. If they fail to match our alignment, attack the numbers (run to the side with fewer defenders).
2. Angle Advantage: If the defense is balanced, we look for blocking angles. We want to run toward the gap the Play-Side Linebacker (PSLB) just vacated or where his alignment gives our blockers leverage. We target the spot where the secondary is balanced but the front seven is out-leveraged.
3. Personnel Advantage: If the defense is balanced and we have no clear blocking angles, we identify and attack personnel mismatches—finding the specific defender our athlete can beat one-on-one.
