Executing Midline Triple Option—Load Scheme vs. 4i

Executing the Midline Triple Option: PST Responsibilities vs. a 4i (Load Scheme)

When running the Midline Triple Option against a 4i technique in a Load Scheme, the Playside Tackle (PST) must follow a key read-and-react rule to secure the Mike linebacker:

1. Attempt to veer inside: On the snap, the PST takes his first three steps trying to veer across the face of the 4i defender.

2. Redirect Outside (If 4i closes): If the PST cannot cross the 4i’s face by the third step, he must immediately redirect back to the outside to target the Mike.

3. Secure the Block: The PST’s primary objective is to clamp down on the Mike linebacker, finishing the block by driving his inside knee directly through the defender’s crotch.
