Here’s the data on Midline run by Georgia Tech and Navy…

Georgia Tech has run Midline and its variations 15 times this season (384 total plays).  Midline is 4% of the Georgia Tech Offense.

Navy has run Midline and its variations 40 times this season (379 total plays).  Midline is 11% of the Navy Offense.

In 2007, Paul Johnson’s last year at Navy, Midline was run 11% of the time.

Since Paul Johnson has been Head Coach at Georgia Tech, he has called the Midline far less frequently than he did at Navy.  Last year, Georgia Tech ran Midline less than 30 times all season.

Bottom line–Midline is optimized for peak performance when it is run nearly 10% of the time.
