The Ten Commandments of a Quality Triple Option Coach

The Ten Commandments of a Quality Triple Option Coach

1- Treat your coaching staff with respect, with dignity, and professionalism.

Remember–you need them to teach your scoops, veer releases, blocking the Near Deep Defender, reading #1, pitching #2, and blocking #3.

2- Father the football players.

Don’t be their big brother.  Be their dad.  Father knows the best way for players to technique their Triple Option assignments.

3- Get along with your stakeholders.

Support the process, which are the people that make up your school.  Show them that the Triple Option Offense is designed to throw for big plays as well as run–because it is!

4- Work well with opposing coaches.

Be professional at all times, and remember–it’s a blessing when they DON’T want to exchange films with you.  You don’t need there film with the Triple Option Offense–this is a systematic process, based offense.

5- Be honest and up front with parents.

Tell them exactly where their son stands within the Offensive system.

6- Exercise humility.

Don’t be a braggart, even when you score 63 points and rush for 507 yards with the Triple Option.

7- Utilize the media to send messages.

This is the time to deliver the mission statement about your program–“Lead the high-performance Triple Option Offensive-environment with sports science and mental conditioning football-based process practices.”

8- Grow professionally.

Develop a work ethic where you learn from others.  The Triple Option Academy assists you in this process.

9- Motivate through education.

Intrinsic motivation occurs when you constantly provide players on how to technique their assignment.  Players must feel good about the techniques they’re utilizing to execute their Triple Option.

10- Lead by example.

Model the information on which you educate players. Extreme conviction to the Triple Option Process is paramount.
