Attacking the 50 Defense with Midline, Rocket, and Triple Pass

When running Triple Option versus a 50 defense, the goal is to gain 5+ yards every play.

If not, here’s what to do.

If the Action Key or Will tackle the dive–run Midline.  This influences the Action Key away from the Midline and prevents the Will from running over the top.  The Will gets pinballed by all five Offensive Linemen on Midline.

If the Safety makes the Tackle on the dive–run Triple Pass.  This makes the Safety pay for sacrificing pass coverage for run support.

If the Mike Pops and/or #1 makes the tackle on the dive–run Rocket.  This creates a numbers and angles advantage on the perimeter.

If anyone else on the 50 defense makes the tackle on the dive–widen your splits.  These other defenders shouldn’t be.
