Navy Flexes 99% of the Time

In Navy’s huge bowl win versus Virginia (49-7), Navy was in a Flexed formation 99% of the time.

This means they brought the Receiver in two yards from the Tackle.

63% of the time versus Virginia, Navy was in Double Flex:

Only 37% of time versus Virginia, Navy split out a single Receiver.

Only 1% of the time versus Virginia, Navy split out two Receivers.

In 2017 Navy’s #1 formation was Double Flex.  No other formation was close.  The offense is certainly evolving.

“The Triple Option Football Academy was instrumental in our program’s success this year.  It gave us the tools to become better coaches and provided us with the answers to make in game adjustments that gave our kids a chance to be successful.  This led to our players becoming more confident in themselves and our coaching staff.  Practices and Game planning became streamlined and everything we did had a purpose.  We are true believers in this offense and the knowledge we have gained through the Triple Option Football Academy has laid the foundation for continued success in the future.”

Offensively we went from scoring a total of 108 points in 2016 to scoring 508 points in 2017. The Triple Option Academy played a huge role in points scored for us. I am super excited to see what the future has in store for us in the second season of running this new offense.”

Here’s Exactly What Georgia Tech, Army, and Navy are Running in 2017

Well, to no surprise the Triple Option is Georgia Tech, Army, and Navy’s #1 concept.  This is due to fact that the Triple Option is an offense and not just a play.

Triple Option is the only concept that these three football programs all utilize at least four times/game.

Army and Navy are utilizing the Zone Option when they are forced to give the ball on Triple Option.  The Zone Option is Army and Navy’s #2 most utilized concept right now.

Army and Georgia Tech are utilizing the Follow when they are forced to pull the ball on Triple Option.  Follow is Georgia Tech’s #3 most utilized concept and Army’s #4 most utilized concept.

So if you are looking for answers into playcalling the Triple Option Offense, look no further.

Step 1- Run Triple Option.  If you get four yards on Triple Option, align and run Triple Option again.  If not…

Step 2- If the defense forces a give read and a gain of less than four, run Zone Option.  If the defense forces a pull read and a gain of less than four, run Follow.

Have a great weekend!

Navy’s Top Four Concepts Through October 14, 2017

In 2017, Navy has run the Triple Option and the Zone Option significantly more than any other concept.

1- TRIPLE OPTION has been run 47 times.

2- ZONE OPTION has been run 41 times.  This concept is utilized when the defense is forcing a give read on Triple.

3- MIDLINE TRIPLE OPTION has been run 28 times.

4- FOLLOW has been run 26 times.  This concept is utilized when the defense is forcing a pull read on Triple and in Short Yardage/Goal-line situations.

The Basics of Army, Navy, and Georgia Tech’s Triple Option Playcalling Process

There is an “if-then” and procedural system to playcalling within the Triple Option Offense.

Army, Navy, and Georgia Tech have evolved in the specifics of this over the last few years.

Simply put–The Offense runs the Triple.  If the offense gets several yards on the Triple Option, run Triple Option again.

Have an answer for the following:

1. When the offense doesn’t get many yards on a give to the B-Back on Triple Option.

2. When the Offense don’t get many yards on a pull/pitch on Triple Option.

Army, Navy, and Georgia Tech have these answers–and you can read about these answers right here.

Learn how to oversimplify the process and install the Triple Option the right way the first time–right here.
